On the occasion of the International Year of Caves and Karst that takes place during the year 2021 and 2022, two interactive maps on this subject have been published.
These maps are published during the V European Geoparks Week “Caves and Karst”.
The maps have been created through the ICGC Instamaps platform.

The underground Orígens Geopark
The Orígens UNESCO Global Geopark together with the Societat d’Amics de la Muntanya and the Catalan Federation of Speleology present an exhibition of photographs that illustrate the richness of this underground heritage within the Geopark.
In the Geopark there are many examples of karst formations resulting from the dissolution of calcareous rocks or those with a high content of calcium carbonate, and the precipitation of this compound.
There are ravines, canyons or sources that form, for example, waterfalls and calcareous tuff domes such as those that can be seen in Rivert or in the Estanys de Basturs. But perhaps the best known formation are the caves, and in the Geopark we find many and very diverse.
These formations have been attracting climbers and speleologists from all over the world for many years who carry out their activities, which are part of the Geopark’s own values, where geological heritage is used as an engine for sustainable local development.
This valuable heritage is irreplaceable and preserving it is everyone’s responsibility.
