Festivities and traditions

In this section we present the two most remarkable traditional festivities of Orígens Geopark.

Falles, the festivity of fire

On the one hand, FALLES, the festivity of fire is celebrated to welcome the summer.

This ancestral festivity consists of carrying lighted logs from an elevated point in the mountain until the village, in the evening, when it gets dark. It is celebrated in different villages of the Pyrenees, and in the Geopark it is celebrated every 17 June in the village of Pobla de Segur.

It is declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO since 2015.

Raiers

Another of the iconic traditions is the festivity of RAIERS (timber rafting) , which preserves the historic memory and gives value to an ancient  job of this territory. Some decades ago, raiers transport the timber extracted from the Pyrenees forests, through the rivers Noguera Pallaresa and Segre until the big cities.

This ancient job is still commemorated nowadays in the villages of  Pont de Claverol, at the beginning of July, and in Coll de Nargó, in middle August.

It is declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO since 2022.
