Georutes

The routes are a network of eight itineraries that allow you to visit the most unique geological enclaves of the Orígens Geopark and understand how they originated, as well as their meaning and importance and their connection with the rest of natural and cultural heritage.

GeoRoute 1: The last dinosaurs of Europe 

Itinerary to be done by car and on foot that links different sites of palaeontological and geological interest. The neuralgic point of this route is the village of Isona. In this location, you can find the Museum of Conca Dellà from where a set of activities are offered. From this point, we can move to other places of this route:

  • Isona – Estanys de Basturs: 5.5 km by car. Once there, you can do a circular trail of 1 km length – accumulated gradient 7 m – difficulty: very easy.
  • Isona – Orcau: 9.1 km by car.  Once there, we can access to the palaeontologial site of dinosaur footprints: 1 km total length – accumulated gradient 30 m – difficulty: very easy.
  • Isona – La Posa: 4.4 km by car. Once there, you can visit, on foot, la Posa site, a big area with some curious marks. Do you dare to discover what they are?  0,5 km total length –  accumulated gradient  16 m – difficulty: easy.
  • Isona – Coll de Comiols: 11.6 km by car. Panoramic views of the Basin, to set your imagination free and move back to a tropical area where dinosaurs roamed.

GeoRoute 2: Collegats, live and breathe

Circular route where you can admire the immensity of Collegats gorge and its legends. It is located between the villages of la Pobla de Segur and Gerri de la Sal. This is a trail to be done on foot and it has two options:

  • Opción 1: Circular trail that starts and ends at la Figuereta Fountain  and it passes by the Serpent Cave and the troglodytic monastery of Sant Pere de les Maleses. 8,88km length –  accumulated gradient de 338 m – moderate difficulty
  • Opción 2: This route starts at la Figuereta Fountain and does to Morreres through an old road. On this path you can admire the Barranc de l’Infern (devil’s gorge) and the Argenteria, a geological formation with extraordinary beauty, especially when it freezes in winter. 8.18 km total length -accumulated gradient 50 m.-  difficulty: easy.

This option can be done either from la Figuereta Fountain parking or from Morreres parking.

GeoRoute 3: Vall Fosca, the energy valley 

The Georoute starts in the village of Pobla de Segur and finishes in Sallente, where you can take the cable car to get to the Goeroute 6: El Carrilet.

This route follows the geology and mining deposits through the Valley of Flamisell River to the glacial lakes of La Vall Fosca. It goes through Erinyà canyon, carved by this river. It also goes through the village of la Torre de Capdella where you can visit the Hydroelectric Museum of Capdella and from which you can also visit the Castell mines. The route finishes in the hydroelectric central power of Sallente

  • Length: 36 km

GeoRoute 4: Sant Antoni Lake

Route that can be done on foot or cycling and it goes along Sant Antoni Lake, from where we can observe Sant Corneli Mountain or Pessonada Rock

This trail starts in the village of Salàs de Pallars and finishes at the train station of la Pobla de Segur. This georoute can be done in any of both directions.

  • Length: 6.75 km (one way) – possibility to go back by train
  • Gradient: 61 m accumulated
  • Difficulty: Easy

GeoRoute 5: Mont-rebei

The Mont-rebei Gorge is one of the most outstanding beauty spots in the Pyrenees, both in scenic terms and in respect of its rich natural and cultural heritage. The route is along a path dug into the rock face, with tunnels at some points, snaking its way through the gorge between towering vertical walls, opening up to the south in the form of an amphitheatre of amazing cliffs.

  • Gradient: 150m accumulated
  • Difficulty: Moderate

GeoRoute 6: El Carrilet

It is located at the northern part of tge Geopark, in the buffer area of the National Park Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici. The georoute passes by the old train of Lake (Estany) Gento, which was used to transport materials for the construction of hydroelectric Capdella and the system of pipes that connect various lakes in the area. Today its route has been converted into a greenway allowing hiking among the spectacular scenery, starting and finishing at the top of the cable car at the Vall Fosca.

GeoRoute 7: Discover Coma de Meià

This circular route on foot allows enjoy panoramic views of the Sierra del Montsec and Coma de Meià. It goes through different geological, mining, biological and cultural points of interest in the Municipality of Vilanova de Meià.

  • Type: Walking
  • Length: 14,3 km (circular)
  • Gradient: 824 m
  • Difficulty: Very Exigent

El Cinquè Llac

El Cinquè Llac (The Fifth Lake) is a circular walking route in the foothills of the Pyrenees, accessible to a wide range of outdoor lovers. It is a mid-mountain route, divided into five stages. One of the trail’s key values is that most of the itinerary follows bridle paths and mountain trails.

El Cinquè Llac has been the winner of the section of  “Naturaleza Nacional” (National Nature) of the XXII edition of the Competition for Best Active Tourism Product, organized by FITUR in collaboration with the magazine Aire Libre.
