The 22nd April UNESCO Global Geoparks celebrates the Earth Day that this year arrives at its 50th anniversary.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Or\u00edgens Geopark<\/strong> participates in this celebration to claim that we must take care of our planet.<\/p>\n

This year there was a celebration was about to be in la Tremoluga, a natural area near the village of Naens (Sentarada \u2013 Pallars Juss\u00e0), with some LArdArt activities t raie awareness among the local population.<\/p>\n

The Tremoluga de Naens<\/strong><\/a> is a small sanctuary of nature that belongs to the microreserves of the Gratitud Pallars<\/strong><\/a> project.<\/p>\n

The history of Earth Day<\/strong><\/p>\n

La seva celebraci\u00f3 va comen\u00e7ar l\u2019any 1970, quan 20 milions d\u2019americans es van manifestar per protestar sobre les problem\u00e0tiques ambientals i per exigir unes noves formes de fer per garantir el futur del planeta terra.<\/p>\n

The protest of the 22nd April of 1970 gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet and it was a mass and unified response to the environmental crisis caused by problems like oil spills, smog, uncontrolled toxic landfills or the extinction of species. Another event previous the first Earth Day was the publication of Rachel Carson\u2019s New York Times bestseller Silent Spring<\/em>\u00a0in 1962 that raised public awareness and concern for living organisms, the environment and the inextricable links between pollution and public health.<\/p>\n

In 1990, Earth Day gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.\u00a0In 2000 Earth Day sent world leaders a loud and clear message: Citizens around the world wanted quick and decisive action on global warming. Later on, Earth Day 2010 came at a time of great challenge for the environmental community to combat the cynicism of climate change deniers and in 2016, the United Nations chose the earth Day to sign the Paris Agreement on climate change.<\/p>\n

Nowadays, Earth Daysi is still celebrated all over the world and it marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
