  • The video consists of a geology class taught by professor Josep Anton Muñoz, recorded in the Congost de Collegats during the VIII European Geoparks Week.
  • The video is titled Formació dels Pirineus: La doble discordança de Collegats and can be viewed at https://youtu.be/glL6eVhqgKQ

Orígens Geopark continues to bring geology closer to the general public with a new master class recorded in a privileged environment: the Congost de Collegats, in the municipality of La Pobla de Segur. The activity, included in the program of the VIII European Geoparks Week 2024, consisted of an outdoor geological interpretation session given by Dr. Josep Anton Muñoz, professor of structural geology at the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Barcelona.

Today, July 28, the video recorded during this informative session is made public. It is a didactic resource that helps us understand and interpret a double unconformity, an exceptional geological structure that allows us to read millions of years of the history of the Pyrenees, from the formation of the Atlantic Ocean to the rise of the Pyrenees mountain range. It offers a geological record of great scientific and educational value, and makes the gorge a key place to understand the evolution of the Pyrenean landscape.

With this publication, the collection of geological videos from the Orígens Geopark continues to grow and consolidates itself as a dissemination tool to bring the geological history of the Pyrenees closer to the general public, with rigorous and accessible explanations recorded in emblematic places in the territory. This is the fourth video published in the collection, which will be enriched with new videos recorded in other emblematic points of the Geopark.
