The route

Walk through the Mont-rebei Gorge, which will allow us to delve into a phase of history little known until now, the transition period between Late Antiquity and the High Middle Ages. Specifically, we will visit the village of Els Altimiris, one of the few Catalan sites framed between the s. V and IX AD of which there is evidence. This settlement will allow us to get an idea of what life could have been like in the high mountain communities corresponding to this transitional period between Late Antiquity and the High Middle Ages, which still presents many questions.

To return, you just have to take the same route as you went, which will lead you back to the La Masieta car park.

What not to miss along the route

  1. La Masieta
  2. Colomera Cave: Located in the middle of the gorge route, it was inhabited from the early Neolithic period until the Roman era.
  3. The Altimiris: Site of an ancient settlement near the summit of Montsec d’Ares, inhabited during the 5th to 9th centuries. It offers spectacular views of the Mont-rebei pass.
  4. Mare de Déu de la Pertusa hermitage: A Romanesque building near the village of Corçà. It offers a great panoramic view of the Montsec mountain range.
