20th Congress of the European Association of Vertebrate Paleontologists

20è Congrés de l’Associació Europea de Paleontòlegs de Vertebrats

The 20th Congress of the European Association of Vertebrate Paleontologists (EAVP) is held in Sabadell between June 26th and July 1st 2023.

It includes a field trip on July 1st through the territory of the Orígens Geopark, where the richness and fossil diversity of the continental Cretaceous deposits of the southern Pyrenees is disclosed. Following the route of the dissemination project entitled ‘Dinosaurs of the Pyrenees’ and where new and immersive experiences generated within the VIGEOCULT project are also offered, which transport participants to the continental environments of the late Cretaceous.

VII Spanish Geoparks Forum Open Meeting

The seventh edition of the Spanish Geoparks Open Meeting takes place in the Orígens UNESCO Global Geopark, in the province of Lleida (Catalonia) on November 3th, 2022; Forum activities are also carried out the day before and after.

These Conferences have been held since 2014.

Every year a UNESCO Global Geopark is in charge of hosting and organizing the Conference in its territory with the aim of publicizing the work carried out by Spanish Geoparks and the impact of this UNESCO figure in these territories.

GeoMod 2018

GeoMod is a biannual international conference dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the latest analog and numerical modeling results in Geosciences.

GeoMod2018, organized by the Geomodels Research Institute of the Universitat de Barcelona and the Instituto de Ciencias de la Tierra Jaume Almera, consists of workshop that takes place from October 1st to 4th in Barcelona and a post conference field trip from October 6th to 7th at the Orígens Geopark, in the municipality of Coll de Nargó.

2017 International Conodont Symposium (ICOS IV) and International Subcommission on Silurian Stratigraphy (ISSS) and on Devonian Stratigraphy (SDS)

This event is celebrated as a triple International congress, in which 80 scientists from 25 countries which belong to the Palaeontological Society specialized in Conodonts (Pander Society) as well as to two international scientific subcommittees: International Subcommission on Devonian Stratigraphy and International Subcommission on Silurian Stratigraphy, which belong to the Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

The congress celebrates the scientific conferences in Valencia from June 26th – 30th, 2017. There are also different field trips: a pre-conference in the Pyrenees (June 20th -25th), with visits to the Conca de Tremp – Montsec aspiring Geopark, another post-congress in Bohemia and the Carnic Alpes (July 1st – 9th) and a mid-field trip to Tabuenca (Zaragoza), on June 28th.

The event is organized by the University of Valencia in collaboration with the University of Cagliari, University of Graz and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

Geological Boot Camp

of Geoscientists & Engineers, the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC), the Universitat de Barcelona and the University of Leeds, in cooperation with the Learning Geoscience will take place in Tremp between the 27th of August and the 12th of September 2017.

2016: The first edition of  the Geological Boot Camp organized by the EAGE (European Association of Engineers and Geoscientist) Geological and Cartographic Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) and the University of Barcelona, will take place in Tremp (Pallars Jussà) days 4th to 9th September 2016.

Participants will have the opportunity to see, first hand, recognition and interpretation procedures currently used in the identification of structures and reservoirs, focused mainly in the Cretaceous materials, thanks to the exceptional geological heritage to be found in the Catalan Pyrenees central part (Tremp), aspiring area to become UNESCO Geopark.

This working camp allows young professionals to stay in touch with students from around the world, university professors and industry experts. An event to promote relations and career opportunities.

Reconstructing the terrestrial end-cretaceus paleoenviroments in Europe

From September 16th to 20th, 2014, the territory of Conca de Tremp – Montsec Geopark project is hosting this palaeontology congress that joins experts from all over the world. During the 4 days of the congress, beside the specialized technical presentations, some activities to the general public are taking place.
