The UNESCO Global Geopark Conca de Tremp – Montsec participates in the European Geoparks meeting in Sevilla

  • Conca de Tremp-Montsec UNESCO Global Geopark participated in two oral presentations and in the education workshop


Two delegates of the UNESCO Global Geopark Conca de Tremp-Montsec participated in the 44th meeting of the Coordination Committee of the European Geoparks Network that took place in Cazalla de la Sierra (Sierra Norte de Sevilla UNESCO Global Geopark) where more than 100 delegates from dfferent Geoparks throughout Europe participated. Topics such as new meetings, the Sustainable Development Goals or the European Geoparks Week were discussed during the meeting. In addition, different working groups were held win which the Geopark participated in the ones of Education and Intangible Heritage.












After the meeting, the 15th Conference of European Geoparks in Seville continued from September 25th to 27th. The Conference is a congress organized in different thematic sessions with oral presentations, workshops and visits to the organizing Geopark, Sierra Norte de Sevilla. The slogan chosen for this conference was “Memory of the Earth, future for the people”, focused on the Sustainable Development of Geoparks and Protected Natural Areas.

The new Chief of the Earth Science and Risk Reduction division of UNESCO, Kristof Vandenberghe, attended the conference for the first time. It also attended the conference other personalities like the president of the Global Geoparks Network, Nickolas Zouros and the president of the European Geoparks Network, Kristyn Rangnes, as well as other local representatives of the Junta de Andalucía.











During the 3 days, the Geopark presented two oral presentations on palaeontology and education by Àngel Galobart and Nuria Verdeny, respectively. The representatives of the Geopark also participated in the education workshop with the presentation of the interpretative panel of the Argenteria geosite and the presentation of two games of the educational kit “A Film Geopark”, which had very good acceptance. Finally, Guillem Puras participated in the moderation of one of the conference sessions.


About 350 participants from different official and aspiring Geoparks in Europe, Asia and America attended the conference. The environment that is created in the conferences fosters an atmosphere of debate and exchange where you can easily interact with other Geoparks.

Next European Geoparks Conference will take place in 2021 in Sessia Val Grande Unesco Global Geopark in Italy.
